Hello

Thank you for looking at my blog. My latest passion is applique which I have been doing since 2015. I love making things and learning new crafts On this blog you will see some of the things I have been working on. You will also see wonderful items created by other people. When I am not crafting I enjoy being with family and friends, singing and family history. My favourite place in the whole world is anywhere by the sea and I have to get my fix every few weeks. My favourite colour is PURPLE but I love turquoise too!

Waterlogue

I bought a new App for my Ipad called Waterlogue. It turns your photos into watercolour paintings in about 10 seconds. It is fascinating seeing the drawing appear first and then the colour is dropped in. There are lots of different effects but I like the bold and vibrant ones best. Landscape and nature photos seem to turn out best.

Here are my first efforts. I will be playing for hours.

Imbolc

My deepest winter stitching is finished. It is one of those early February mornings when there is mist and drizzle and the hedgerows are full of seed heads with the odd splash of red or orange from leaves that are still hanging on. It will very soon be Spring now.

Nana

I came across some old photos taken in County Cork in 1927. This old lady is the spitting image of my Nana in old age. Nana taught me to knit and she and my Mum gave me a gift for life. I always have someone to talk to when I am out and about with my sock knitting.

Bealtine

The second of my Festival Season series of stitchings is complete. I have called this one after the Celtic May festival. The hedgerow is just bursting forth. It is my favourite month of the year and I would rather mark it in Ireland than anywhere else in the world.

The lace in this stitching was a very lucky find. A woman in Spain was retiring from making communion dresses and she was selling off her trimmings. It has been 9 months since I started on my stitching journey and one of my favourite bits is hunting down fabrics that I can use. I haunt the charity shops and I can now see when a pattern on a fabric might become something else.

Heading into my winter stitchings now.

Exhibition Time

My stitching is on display with the work of Anne O'Connor in the library in Dunmanway. We hope we will encourage more people to have a go. We might struggle to find seats for them in class though!
